About Me & My History

My name is Adam Hochman and I’m the owner & operator of Aceso Courier and Process Serving in Mountain View California. I was born in NYC and moved to Silicon Valley in 1976. I enlisted in the Marines in 1987 and served for 4 years. During that time, I found myself stationed everywhere from Japan to deployment in South Korea, and even on a WESTPAC amphibious carrier.

In the Marines, I spent much of my time in Logistics. During that phase of my service, I learned from one of my instructors at Camp Lejeune that, when you break it down, the overall concept of Logistics is pretty cut-and-dry. You simply ask yourself “What next, what next, what next?” and “What if, what if, what if?” Finally, you answer the questions “What needs to get where, what can go wrong, and how can I work with others to get it done.” This process made a lot of sense to me and I never forgot it. I took that lesson to heart and carried it with me through all parts of my life, all the way from serving in the Marines up to my time as a medical courier, where I am today.

Breaking into the Industry & Becoming a Courier

I started in the industry in 1996 as a document courier and spent that time delivering packages and paperwork. Originally, it was not what I wanted to do. The work was fine, but it meant nothing to me in the grand scheme of things. However, I did not remain a parcel courier for long. Instead, I shifted focus to the medical field and began applying my newfound skills there.

When I started my First medical courier job, my perspective changed. Granted, the hours were longer & I got calls at All Hours (60+/week) since it was medical. Unlike most things, these deliveries could not wait till later. The work was harder, but unlike in my previous courier position, I began to really enjoy the medical side of things. I think this is where the Marine in me really came out and shined. I really liked doing something that Added Value to my community, and my previous position delivering documents was mundane and pedestrian. On the other hand, helping people in need receive the medical equipment and supplies that would keep them alive really helped me appreciate the industry and find value in what I was doing.

Aceso Courier – Veteran Owned & Veteran Run

I enlisted in the Marines to do something that I could say I was proud to do. Something that brought value to myself and other members of society as well. I still feel this way today. I Learned in the Marines how much can get done when you have a Dedicated Team, Competent Leadership & Excellent Communication. As a Marine veteran myself, I know that these traits come second nature to Reservists and Vets like myself. As a result, I know we can achieve more, and go above & beyond with a team of this caliber. Ultimately, my choice to found Aceso Courier as a veteran-owned and veteran-run business will give us a heavy advantage over the competition.

However, there’s more method to my madness than simply hiring vets. It runs deeper. I’ve learned about leadership & management, both during my time in the service and in civilian life. The secret to success all boils down to leadership. Quality leaders and managers have many things in common. You’ll be able to spot them by the way their employees respond to them. How they treat them. You’ll never hear an employee talking poorly about a good boss because they know they’re appreciated, supported, and encouraged to do better. On the other hand, bad leadership delivers the exact opposite effect on your staff. Bottom line, good leaders empower their fellow workers, and in turn, the workers deliver better results.

Having a team of people who understand the shorthand of leadership, competency, checklists, double-checking, training, and mutual support understand this as second nature. Veterans like myself understand this. Team-building is ingrained in us. No corporate retreat in the world could ever achieve the cohesive collectivity that binds us all together. Every veteran in and out of uniform talks about the same thing – being in a well-run unit where people are trained, encouraged, and motivated to do more. They miss that. Taking the best of what I’ve learned and applying it to my own business is of the utmost importance. I’m here to offer a place where vets can work, where they’re understood, respected, and appreciated. In other words, the kind of place where I’d want to work at too.

Founding A Green Business

I served in the Marines during Desert Storm. We went to war over oil, plain and simple. I’ve seen the devastation and destruction that conflicts of this nature caused and still cause to this day. As such, it should come as no surprise that I never want our country to experience this again. Having a veteran-owned Green business is how I show support for the vets who served while simultaneously putting my money where my mouth is. A commitment to reducing the need for oil consumption is how I pledge to do my part to avoid conflicts of this nature in the first place.

Additionally, there are too many reasons not to go Green. It’s better for our bottom line, better for the planet, and better for the people. Additionally, it keeps operations cost down, and we get to pass the savings onto our clients. When other companies lose profits eaten up by the higher gas prices, they have three main choices. Lose money, pay employees less, or charge clients more. Frequently, they add additional Gas Surcharges and pass those off to their clients. As a green business operating a Green fleet of electric vehicles, we’ll never have to do that. As gasoline costs continue to skyrocket, we still save more going Green. And personally, I’d rather start off on the right foot.

I didn’t even want to start off with hybrids because frankly, that wasn’t good enough. It’s about keeping your eye on the prize, even when there are easier options available. I committed to being Green from the start with my first vehicle and all those moving forward because I knew if I start off using gas-powered, I’d be taking a step backward. Living in Silicon Valley, I know from experience that fighting progress, especially technological progress, is usually a losing battle. I learned that staying up-to-date with new tech is easier than having some mix of the old & new that don’t work well together. After all, that only slows the ability to make changes for the Economy & Environment. Your tech is only as strong as the weakest link.

Everyone talks about “going Green” and transitioning away from fossil fuels. That’s fine and all, but if you start Green and pledge to use only electric or carbon-neutral transportation from the git-go, you don’t have to retool your company. You need only focus on scaling.

Thank You For Your Interest in Aceso Courier

Ultimately, I know the value veterans have to offer our society and I know the abilities a team of people like that can bring to any business. I know reaching out will make a change.
